Our craft
Coffee made with longing.
Kogare is a small specialty roastery in Malaysia. We roast single-origin coffee in small batches, to order — approachable enough for every morning, considered enough to reward a closer look.
The name
焦がれ — kogare — is a Japanese word for longing: to ache for something, to burn for it. Its first character, 焦, is the mark of scorch and fire — the roast itself. The feeling it draws from, 恋, is love. We named the roastery for that pull toward something made with care, and for the fire that makes it.
How we roast
We choose one origin at a time and roast to suit its character — lighter to keep a delicate coffee bright and floral, deeper to draw out body and sweetness. Nothing is blended away; each cup is allowed to taste of where it came from.
Everything is roasted in small batches and sent soon after, so it reaches you close to its best. It is a slower, more attentive way to work — and we think it shows in the cup.
